Thank you for supporting Veronica, Jesus, and their family
Your donation is a symbol of your support to artisan co-ops by participating in a circular economy. 100% of your support goes to the Mayan Artisans. Veronica, her husband Jesus, and other members of their family have taken actionable steps towards resilience and economic well being by creating works of art in clay.
Choose increments of $5, $10, $50, or $100 of donated support towards their family. Their family relies on farming and selling crops of beans and corn for their living. Some seasons, their crops are wiped out from hurricanes. In addition, farming is a family business and since their isn’t work in their rural town Carizalon, two of their sons have gone to find work in Mexico and have unfortunately been detained by the Mexican government since November 2023. We want to support them in these tough times with a hand up!
As a supplement, they make fine handmade clay jewelry by a collection of artisans from Copan Ruinas, Honduras. Their collective is called: Alfarería Maya Ch'orti: Mujeres De Acción.
Among the world of the Maya across MesoAmerica/Central America, the Mayan Ch'orti of Copan were known for millennia for their artisan craftsmanship working with stone and clay, particularly in the decor of their pyramids, other structures, and various earthenware, statues, and ornamental jewelry.
